Fresno Kendo Dojo, the oldest kendo school in the Central Valley area, was founded in 1980, with the leadership of our head instructor, the late Harutane Chiba, the 36th generation member of the Hokushin Chiba School of Kendo in Osaka, Japan.
Kendo translated, means: The Way of the Sword. It is the traditional art of Japanese sword fencing. The kendo practitioner will be taught how to use a bamboo sword, wearing a traditional kendo uniform, and protective kendo armor. Through the regular practice of kendo, one will be able to strengthen your body, discipline your mind, and build a strong individual spirit which will be beneficial in one’s daily life as a student, parent, or whatever work that one does in the modern day world.
Please visit our Fresno Kendo Dojo for a free trial lesson; if you decide to start kendo training, there is an initial enrollment fee, and then the kendo student will be required to pay monthly dues. The initial kendo equipment needed is a bamboo shinai; and then with additional kendo experience a kendo uniform and protective kendo armor will be needed.
